Privacy Policy
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use Velai, we may collect:
- Account details: mobile number (for OTP login), name, role (employer or worker), profile photo, skills/categories.
- Location: approximate or precise location to show nearby jobs and workers. If you enable “available for work,” we may collect location while the app is in use or in the background so nearby employers can find you.
- Job activity: job posts, descriptions, pay you set, accepts/declines, status updates, ratings, and related timestamps.
- Payments: for the Velai platform posting fee (after free posts), payment is processed by Razorpay. We receive payment status and order references. Worker wages are arranged directly between users (for example cash or UPI) and are not processed as payroll by Velai in the current version.
- Device & notifications: device identifiers needed for app operation and Expo/Firebase push notification tokens.
- Support communications: messages you send us by email, phone, or WhatsApp.
2. How we use information
- Create and secure your account (phone OTP via Firebase Authentication).
- Match employers and workers near each other and operate job flows.
- Process platform posting fees and prevent fraud/abuse.
- Send transactional notifications (new job, acceptance, completion reminders).
- Improve safety, reliability, and customer support.
- Comply with applicable law and enforce our Terms.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal data. We may share data with:
- Other users as needed for a job (for example name, rating, and—after a match/accept—contact details to coordinate work).
- Service providers: Google Firebase (auth, database, storage, functions), Razorpay (platform fee payments), and Expo (push delivery).
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the platform.
4. Data retention
We keep account and job records for as long as needed to provide Velai, resolve disputes, meet legal/accounting requirements, and improve safety. You may request account deletion by contacting us (see below). Some records may be retained where the law requires.
5. Security
We use industry-standard cloud security controls provided by our processors (including encryption in transit). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please protect your device and do not share OTPs with others.
6. Children’s privacy
Velai is intended for adults who can lawfully work and hire. It is not directed at children under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
7. Your choices
- You can update profile details in the app.
- You can disable location or notifications in device settings (some features may stop working).
- You can request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data by emailing us.
8. International processing
Our infrastructure providers may process data in India and other regions where their data centres operate. By using Velai, you understand that your information may be processed in those locations under this Policy.
9. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of Velai after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
